How long does content take?

How long does it take for your content strategy to show results? It typically takes 6 months or more, but the big wins can come years later. This was my experience hosting Drucker Forum TV this year. For the 3rd straight year, this time it hit me how much our work was making an impact.

The live 2-day stream that runs alongside the Global Peter Drucker Forum — and it has been a great honor to host. This year was different from previous years however. I was approached by two business leaders who recognized me as “the Drucker TV guy.”

These individuals told me they came to the Global Peter Drucker Forum because they had watched the stream for 2 years. That may sound like a long time, but for a 2-day stream that happens once a year, it’s fast progress.

Unlike previous years where Drucker Forum TV was unknown and irrelevant, this year it has now solidified itself into a recognizable entity with sponsors and speakers requesting to be on the show.

3 years, folks. It took 3 years to actually feel as though Drucker Forum TV was making a meaningful impact. This lines up with my own client work, and advice from YouTuber Mike Russell whom I spoke to just last month about this very topic.

Content, even great content, takes time. Lots of time.

Your content strategy will often take about 6 months or more to return meager value. And to put up big results can take YEARS of consistency through valuable content.

Russell has crossed over 300,000 viewers as of my interview with him. It took him years from producing consistent content before he could start making any income at all.

Sadly, most comms or marketing leaders who invest in content, like videos or podcasts bail in 6 months or less. One CEO I spoke to a few months back confirmed this when he told me he killed their podcast project because it wasn’t getting results.

“What results did you set out to get?” I asked. He immediately saw his error. He didn’t.

Set reasonable goals, focus on who your audience is and how large they are, set reasonable timelines and do it all early. Otherwise, you could very well toss out a content strategy that is working.

The studio is created inside HofBurg Palace in Vienna and runs alongside The Global Peter Drucker Forum.
